Social Studies Update -Finish Final project by the holiday break

Holiday Party Letter and the party details - Polar Express- Friday 13th 8:15-12:00Hot Chocolate and Socks - Change jar for the families and children in the Philippines, Thursday @2 (decorate cookies, hot coco, socks)
Holiday assembly? - Friday 13th @1:45PM, email Caty to see if we can have her play the guitar with 1 or 2 songs.

Persuasive writing celebration: We are wrapping up our writing and putting them onto blogs. Non fiction unit will begin on monday. Reading Unit - Mystery: Successful unit - perhaps start next year with mystery.
This week - DRA's. Upcoming Units of Study Non-fiction: Syemor Simon as mentor texts to align with water unit. Navigating non-fiction (Lucy Calkins). Social Studies: align unit with non-fiction construct an interdisciplinary unit.
Book sessions with Jeff on Key words and research.

Field trip to Shanghai Japanese School - next Wednesday (2/19), students should bring their own lunch.
Science station walk through.
Integrating units - focus on aligning genre with topics, vocabulary word strategies for non-fiction & beyond (prefix, suffix, root word etc.), dictionary. Integrate vocabulary strategies into word study.
Vertical classroom visits - visits to grade 3 & 5 student writing (in two weeks). The focus will be on standards at each grade level and what we're working towards across grade levels.
